Piranshahr; Continued Detention and 27 Days of no Information About the Fate of Iman Cheshteh

Twenty-seven days after the arrest of Iman Cheshteh, a student from Piranshahr, his family still has no information about his place of detention or condition and has received no clear response.

According to Kolbarnews, since his arrest and over the past 27 days, Iman Cheshteh has had only one brief phone call with his family and during this time has been denied access to a lawyer and family visits. The source added that the family’s repeated follow-ups with security and judicial authorities to learn about the fate of this detained student have so far remained unsuccessful.

According to Kolbarnews, on Sunday, January 5, 2026, Iman Cheshteh was arrested by security forces at the Darlek junction in Mahabad without the presentation of a judicial warrant and was transferred to an unknown location. At the same time as his arrest, security forces raided his family home and, after searching the house, confiscated and took away some of his personal belongings, including his laptop.

Iman Cheshteh is a law student and a resident of the city of Mahabad, and so far no official explanation has been provided regarding the reason for his arrest or the charges brought against him.

As of the time of publication of this report, the reason for the arrest and the charges raised against this Kurdish student remain unclear, and the responsible institutions have provided no response.
