UN Warning About the Return of Over One Million Afghans from Iran

The United Nations Special Representative for Afghanistan warned on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, that the speed and volume of the return of Afghans from Iran has made it difficult to provide support mechanisms for them.

After visiting the “Islam Qala” border in Herat Province, the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan called for immediate international support for Afghanistan. He said: “The vast scale of returns, happening very suddenly and under severe compulsion, should sound alarm bells around the world.” In the first seven months of this year, more than 1.4 million people have returned or been forced to return to Afghanistan, with over one million of them returning from Iran.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of the Islamic Republic regime had warned that all undocumented Afghans must leave the country and return to Afghanistan by the July 6th.
