Urmia; Continued Arbitrary Detention and Lack of Information About the Fate of a Citizen

More than one month after the arrest of Hadis Haghighi, a 21-year-old blogger from Urmia, there is still no precise information available regarding her condition, place of detention, or fate.

According to Kolbarnews, more than a month ago, security forces carried out a nighttime raid on the family home of Hadis Haghighi in Urmia and, without presenting any judicial warrant, arrested her and her father.

Based on obtained information, this Kurdish citizen and her father have, since their arrest, been deprived of access to a lawyer, telephone contact, and family visits, and this situation has raised serious concerns about their conditions of detention.
Additionally, by order of judicial authorities, Hadis Haghighi’s Instagram page has been blocked and her activity on social media has been halted.

Repeated follow-ups by the Haghighi family to obtain information about the condition and place of detention of these two individuals have so far remained unsuccessful, and the responsible institutions have refused to provide any response.

In this regard, reports indicate that, at the same time as the war between Iran and the United States/Israel, a number of Kurdish bloggers in Urmia have been summoned by security institutions and, after interrogation, their electronic devices have been confiscated and they have been prevented from continuing their activity on social media.

As of the time of preparing this report, no information has been published regarding the reasons for the arrest or the possible charges against Hadis Haghighi.
