Nationwide Protests; Death of 10 Gilaki Citizens, Including Two Women, by Direct Gunfire from Government Forces

During nationwide protests in the cities of Rasht, Bandar Anzali, Rostamabad, and Manjil in Gilan Province, as well as the cities of Ramsar, Tonekabon (Shahsavar), Chalus, and Babol in Mazandaran Province, at least 10 Gilaki citizens, including two women, lost their lives after being directly shot with live ammunition by forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The names of those killed are: Negin Ghadimi, Parnia Shad Bejarkonari, Meysam Zarei Bejarkonari, Mehdi Saheli, Amir Heidardoost, Mehdi Ghadimi, Saeid Mirzaei, Ebrahim Ghayoumi, Payam Babo Kuhestani, and Abbas Khadem.

According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, Negin Ghadimi, 28 years old and from Shahsavar, was killed by direct gunfire from government forces during nationwide protests in the city. According to informed sources, she died after being shot while she was in her father’s arms.
On the same day, Mehdi Saheli, 26 years old and from Ramsar, was killed by government gunfire during popular protests in one of the city’s squares. His body has not yet been handed over to his family, and his family is under pressure from security institutions.

During the protests on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Meysam Zarei Bejarkonari, 39 years old and from Rasht, was killed by direct gunfire from government forces.
Mehdi Ghadimi, a football player from Babol, was also killed by direct gunfire from government forces during popular protests in that city. Amir Heidardoost, a citizen from Manjil, likewise lost his life after being shot by government forces during protests in that city.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Abbas Khadem, a sports coach from Rostamabad in Rudbar County, was killed by direct gunfire from government forces during popular protests in that city. He died after being hit by a live bullet to the neck. At the same time, government forces, using direct gunfire and tear gas, targeted dozens of citizens, including women and children.

Ebrahim Ghayoumi, a citizen from Bandar Anzali, also lost his life on the same day after being directly shot by government forces during popular protests. The exact location of his killing is still unknown due to internet shutdowns, but according to the latest information, he was killed during protests in either Rasht or Bandar Anzali.

During protests in other cities, Payam Babo Kuhestani, 35 years old and from Chalus, lost his life after being directly shot by government forces.
Also in Rasht, Parnia Shad Bejarkonari, 23 years old, and Saeid Mirzaei, 31 years old, both residents of the city, were killed by direct gunfire from government forces. Parnia Shad Bejarkonari was residing in Yazd. According to informed sources, her brother was also shot directly in the heart during these protests and was transferred to hospital.

According to accounts received from the city of Rasht, which have not yet been independently confirmed or denied due to internet disruptions, on Friday, January 9, 2026, government forces in Rasht’s Municipality Square dispersed protesters with scattered gunfire, forcing them toward the bazaar, then set fire to the bazaar and placed exit routes under control. According to these accounts, citizens who attempted to leave the bazaar were targeted by direct gunfire. Armed vehicles equipped with heavy weapons, including machine guns, were stationed around the bazaar and controlled exit routes, and a number of citizens were shot directly by armed forces while trying to escape. Shortly afterward, internet access in the city was widely cut off.
