Wrya Moayed and Jamal Khodakarami, two civil activists from Sanandaj who were arrested by security forces during the wave of detentions in January 2026, were temporarily released from prison after 96 days in detention upon posting bail.

According to Kolbarnews, Wrya Moayed and Jamal Khodakarami, two civil activists from Sanandaj who had been arrested during the wave of arrests targeting civil and political activists in January 2026, were temporarily released from prison on April 9, 2026, after three months and seven days in detention, upon posting bail.
The two activists were arrested on January 4, 2026, along with several other civil activists and former political prisoners in Sanandaj, without the presentation of a judicial warrant and as part of a coordinated security operation. According to received information, bail for Werya Moayed was initially set at 1 billion tomans, but the presiding judge later increased the amount to 3 billion tomans.
According to received reports, Werya Moayed and Jamal Khodakarami were held and interrogated in a detention facility operated by the Sanandaj Intelligence Department from the time of their arrest until March 1, 2026. Following the evacuation of that detention center due to missile attacks and conditions resulting from the 40-day war, the two activists were first transferred to the quarantine ward and subsequently to the general ward of Sanandaj Central Prison.
During the investigation stage, they were formally charged with offenses including “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion,” “disrupting public order and peace,” “forming a group or organization with the aim of undermining national security,” and “cooperation with groups opposed to the state.”
On the same day, at least ten civil activists and former political prisoners “Kaivan Zandkarimi, Shaho Mohammadi, Jamal Khodakarami, Khabat Asadi, Arman Salimi, Khaled Seif-Panahi, Ghane Khateri, Bayan Farajollahi, Dalir Eskandari, and Werya Moayed” were arrested by security forces in different parts of Sanandaj and transferred to undisclosed locations.
Werya Moayed had previously been arrested as well. On May 19, 2022, he was detained along with four other citizens in Baneh by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed detention facility.
It should also be noted that one day before the beginning of this wave of arrests, warning text messages had been sent to a number of citizens stating that any activity in cyberspace or in the public sphere would be regarded as an act against national security and a disruption of public order, while warning individuals of possible judicial and security prosecution.
