Tehran; Death of Reza Rizvandi, a 27-year-old Kurdish engineer, by security forces

Reza Rizvandi, a 27-year-old Kurdish engineer from Kermanshah, is among the citizens who lost their lives during the nationwide protests in Tehran, yet the circumstances of his death remain unclear to his family.

According to Kolbarnews, after days of follow-up and searching, Reza Rizvandi’s family finally managed to identify his body on 17 January 2026.
After identification, the body was transferred by ambulance to Kermanshah and buried there.
A close relative of the Rizvandi family said: “It is still not clear whether Reza was killed on Friday, 9 January, at the same time as the protests, or whether he died days later after being arrested. No official institution gives us a clear answer, and under these circumstances we have little hope of discovering the truth. Different accounts are being raised, but what is certain for us is that he was shot from behind.”

According to relatives, Reza Rizvandi left home on the evening of Friday, 9 January 2026, and in his last contact with one of his friends said that he was being pursued and was trying to escape.
After the call ended, the family went to prosecutors’ offices, prisons, and security institutions seeking information about his situation, but received no response. Eventually, his body was identified on 17 January 2026 at Behesht Zahra cemetery.

Reza Rizvandi was originally from Kermanshah and worked in the field of computer engineering.
