Urmia; Temporary Release of a Citizen After 11 Months of Detention

Ahmad Mam Sharifi, a citizen from Piranshahr, was temporarily released after nearly 11 months of detention and imprisonment in the central prison of Urmia upon the posting of 3 billion tomans bail.

According to Kolbarnews, Ahmad Mam Sharifi, son of Omar, originally from the village of “Silveh” and a resident of Piranshahr, had been arrested on June 20, 2025, by security forces and, after months of uncertainty in the central prison of Urmia, was released from prison on 3 billion tomans bail.
The arrest of this citizen had taken place without the presentation of a judicial warrant and following a raid by security forces on his personal home. Simultaneously with him, three other Kurdish citizens had also been arrested in Piranshahr, and for a period of time their families had no information regarding the place of detention and condition of the detainees.

During the interrogation period in one of the security detention centers, Ahmad Mam Sharifi had been deprived of the right to access a lawyer and meet with his family, and after the end of the interrogations he had been transferred to the central prison of Urmia.
Until the time of his temporary release, he had been held for months in a state of uncertainty and without judicial clarification in this prison.
