Yazd; 24 workers trapped under rubble following the collapse of the Bafoq iron ore mine

The collapse of an iron ore mine about 80 kilometers from the city of Bafq in Yazd Province resulted in 24 workers being trapped under debris.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, the collapse of an iron ore mine approximately 80 kilometers from the city of Bafq in Yazd Province once again brought the issue of mine safety and workers’ lives to the center of public attention.
Based on initial reports, at the time of the incident, 24 workers were present at the mine site, all of whom were trapped following the collapse. Mojtaba Khaledi, spokesperson for the Iranian Red Crescent Society, confirmed the incident and stated that so far, 18 workers have been rescued from under the rubble. According to him, the general condition of most of the rescued workers has been reported as stable; however, two individuals were transferred to medical centers due to the severity of their injuries, in coordination with emergency teams.

Rescue operations by Red Crescent forces and local teams are ongoing, and no precise information has yet been released regarding the condition of the remaining trapped workers. Responsible authorities have not provided further details about the exact cause of the collapse or the safety conditions of the mine.

This incident comes amid numerous reports in recent months of collapses and deadly accidents in mines across the country. On December 8, 2025, the collapse of the Esfandagh chromite mine in Arzuiyeh County, Kerman Province, led to the death of a worker named Moslem Shahabi and the injury of another worker. Prior to that, on November 8, 2025, the collapse of a mining unit in the village of Darbid, Zarach County, Yazd Province, injured two workers.

Additionally, on October 17, 2025, Ali Hosseinzadeh, a worker at one of the mines in Tabas County, lost his life due to debris collapse and the severity of his injuries. On September 22, 2024, an explosion at the Madanjoo Coal Company mine in Tabas, caused by a sudden release of methane gas, resulted in the deaths of 56 workers, an incident that remains one of the most tragic labor disasters of recent years in public memory.
