Urmia; Temporary Release of Majid Darvishnejad, Kurdish Actor and Director, Following Arrest by Security Forces

Majid Darvishnejad, a cinema and theater actor and director from Urmia, was temporarily released on bail after several days of detention and interrogation in one of the city’s security detention centers.

According to Kolbarnews, in mid-May 2026, Majid Darvishnejad was invited to the Cultural Complex of Urmia under the pretext of attending a meeting by Hojat Asghari, the head of the cultural complex; however, after arriving at the location, he was arrested by security forces.

According to received information, this Kurdish artist was transferred after his arrest to the “9 Pelleh” security detention center in Urmia and was subjected to interrogation for six days. He was eventually released temporarily upon the posting of bail.

Majid Darvishnejad is considered one of the well-known figures in the fields of cinema and theater in Urmia and has maintained an active presence in artistic and cultural activities over recent years.
