Sanandaj; Arrest of women’s rights activist by government forces

Bayan Farajollahi, a women’s rights activist from Sanandaj, was arrested by security forces and transferred to an unknown location.

According to Kolbarnews, on the morning of Sunday, January 4, 2026, Bayan Farajollahi, a women’s rights activist from Sanandaj, was arrested by security forces in the city and taken to an undisclosed location. As of the time of writing this report, no information is available regarding her condition or fate.

Bayan Farajollahi had previously faced charges from Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court on the accusation of “cooperating with opposition parties of the regime.” After three court sessions and two summonses and interrogations, she was sentenced by the court to one year of discretionary imprisonment. Ms. Farajollahi had earlier confirmed the issuance of the verdict against her while rejecting all the charges. Regarding her last court session, she stated: “The judge did not allow my lawyers, Javanmir Abdollahi and Mazyar Tataei, to speak or defend me, and I had to defend myself alone and without a lawyer.”

Bayan Farajollahi was previously arrested on Monday, July 17, 2023 (26 Tir 1402), after security forces from the Intelligence Department raided her private residence without presenting a warrant or judicial order. After 41 days in solitary confinement under psychological pressure, she was charged with cooperating with parties outside the country.
