Karaj: Death of Kurdish student Rojin Mahmoudi-Azar by direct fire from government forces

In the continuation of the bloody crackdown on nationwide protests, Rojin Mahmoudi-Azar, a Kurdish student from Mahabad, was killed by direct gunfire from government security forces during popular protests in Karaj.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Rojin Mahmoudi-Azar was shot during the protests in Karaj and lost her life.

Based on information received, government authorities demanded and received 1 billion tomans from her family in exchange for releasing her body. Rojin Mahmoudi-Azar was buried last night under heavy security, with a strong presence of government security forces.

As of the time of this report, government officials have provided no official explanation regarding the circumstances of Rojin Mahmoudi-Azar’s death.
