Esfarayen; Pooya Rostami and Abbas Zeynali Killed During Nationwide Protests

Pooya Rostami and Abbas Zeynali, two young Kurdish Kurmanji men from Esfarayen, are among those killed during the nationwide protests in this city after being directly shot by government forces during the crackdown.

According to Kolbarnews, Pooya Rostami, 25, and Abbas Zeynali, who was under 25 years old, were directly targeted by live ammunition fired by suppressive forces of the Islamic Republic on the evening of Thursday, January 9, 2026, during the nationwide protests in Esfarayen and were killed.
Based on the information obtained, Pooya Rostami was killed after being shot with live ammunition to the mouth and chest, and Abbas Zeynali was also directly shot with live ammunition.

It should be noted that Pooya Rostami lost his father in childhood and had only one brother.
Their mother raised both children alone.
