Dehgolan; Issuance of prison sentence for Soheila Mottaei, women’s rights activist

Soheila Mottaei, a women’s rights activist and one of those arrested during International Women’s Day ceremonies and the Jina Revolutionary movement in Dehgolan, was sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to six months of discretionary imprisonment and three years of suspended imprisonment.

According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Soheila Mottaei was sentenced by the Dehgolan Criminal Court to six months of discretionary imprisonment and three years of suspended imprisonment on the charge of ‘propaganda against the system and publication in media outside Iran,’ in connection with the case related to her arrest after the International Women’s Day ceremony.
This verdict was issued while, according to received information, the possibility of effective defense during the judicial process was not provided for this women’s rights activist.
Based on this report, during the trial process, Soheila Mottaei was not allowed to register an objection or request an appeal, and judicial authorities stated that if no action is taken, the case will be sent to the Office for the Enforcement of Sentences for implementation of the verdict.

Soheila Mottaei had previously, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in another case, been sentenced by Branch 102 of the Second Criminal Court of Dehgolan County to three months of discretionary imprisonment and three years of suspended imprisonment on the charge of ‘propaganda in favor of groups or organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic.’

This women’s rights activist was arrested on Monday evening, March 10, 2025, in connection with her activities and presence at the International Women’s Day ceremony in Sanandaj, by forces of the Intelligence Department in Dehgolan, and was released after one week upon posting bail.

Soheila Mottaei had also been arrested twice in previous years due to her civil activities and participation in the Jina Revolutionary movement and was collectively sentenced by the Dehgolan Revolutionary Court to 60 months of imprisonment. After serving several months of her sentence, she was granted amnesty and released from prison.
