Urmia; Sudden Transfer of Three Death Row Prisoners and Growing Concerns About the Implementation of Their Sentences

Naser Bakrzadeh, Yaghoub Karimpour, and Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, three prisoners sentenced to death in Urmia Central Prison, have been suddenly and separately transferred to unknown locations, and this situation has intensified concerns about the imminent implementation of their execution sentences.

According to Kolbarnews on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Naser Bakrzadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner, was taken out of prison and transferred to an unknown location after being summoned to the office for the implementation of sentences.
At the same time, Yaghoub Karimpour, a Turkish citizen and follower of the Yarsan faith from Miandoab, was removed from prison under the pretext of being sent to forensic medicine, and Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, who had been held in solitary confinement for the past two days, was also transferred to an unknown location.

As of the time of preparing this report, none of these three prisoners had returned to their wards.

Based on the information received, these transfers were carried out using unusual vehicles and under unclear pretexts, which has seriously increased the likelihood of the implementation of the execution sentences.

Naser Bakrzadeh, a 26-year-old Kurdish political prisoner from Urmia, has been sentenced to death by Branch Two of the Revolutionary Court on charges of “spying for Israel.” His death sentence was confirmed for the third time by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court in a rushed process over a short period and was officially communicated to him on April 25. Reports indicate that during his detention at the “Al-Mahdi” detention center, he was subjected to torture to extract forced confessions and was also beaten in prison.

Yaghoub Karimpour, a graduate in public law and a resident of Miandoab, has been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia on charges of “corruption on earth” through “spying for Israel.” His death sentence was confirmed last month by Branch Nine of the Supreme Court. According to reports, he was subjected to torture during detention in order to extract forced confessions, and his wife, Saboura Lotfi, was also arrested to exert pressure on him. This citizen was arrested during the recent war between Iran and Israel.

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, a 27-year-old Kurdish citizen from Urmia and one of those arrested during the “Jina Revolutionary Movement,” has been sentenced to death on charges of “armed rebellion (baghi)” by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court. His request for retrial was recently rejected by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court. Prior to his transfer, following a verbal altercation with prison guards, he had been held in solitary confinement by order of prison authorities.

Several hours after the transfer of these three prisoners, the responsible institutions have provided no explanation regarding their current condition, place of detention, or the possible timing of the implementation of their sentences, and this issue has raised widespread concern among families and public opinion.
