Urmia; Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri Sentenced to Death

Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, one of the detainees from the 2022 protests, has been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Urmia.

According to Kolbarnews, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, a detainee from the nationwide protests of 2022, has been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia.

Osman Mozayen, Mr. Babamiri’s lawyer, confirmed in an interview with HRANA that the death sentence was issued yesterday by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, and a formal notification was also sent to the defense attorneys for in-person delivery and receipt of the ruling. He added that, at this point, it is unclear which specific charge the issued sentence pertains to.

According to the indictment, Rezgar Beigzadeh faces charges including moharebeh (waging war against God), baghi (armed rebellion), assembly and collusion against national security, financing terrorism, propaganda against the regime, espionage, cooperation with hostile governments, possession of illegal weapons, membership in illegal groups, possession of banned communication devices (such as Starlink), and masterminding an assassination.

The case was initially reviewed in Branch 10 of the Urmia Prosecutor’s Office and later referred to the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts.

It is worth noting that in Ordibehesht (April/May) of this year, Mr. Babamiri’s 15-year prison sentence for “participation in murder during the 2022 nationwide protests” was upheld in full by the Appeals Court of West Azerbaijan Province.

This political prisoner, who is currently held in Urmia Prison, was previously arrested in March/April 2023 in Bukan and transferred to Urmia Prison after four months in security detention centers.
