At least six citizens, including two Sukhtbars, tragically died in a fire following a collision between two Nissan pickup trucks on the Saravan-Kouhak highway, near the Dehouaran junction.
According to Kolbarnews, on September 14, 2024, two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in a devastating fire that claimed the lives of all six passengers. Among the deceased, two Sukhtbars were identified as Abdulbaqi Barahouei and his assistant Seyed Ahmad (last name unknown), both from Sarjangal, Zahedan.
The other victims, all members of one family, have been identified as Balach Zahrouzehi, his wife Aimeneh Malouk Zehi, and two of their children, whose names are not yet known.
A source mentioned, “The two Nissan pickups collided head-on, with one carrying fuel, which caused a massive fire engulfing both vehicles and killing all passengers.”
The source added, “The Saravan-Kouhak highway, which connects to a major border terminal, lacks proper road standards, traffic signs, and has a very narrow width, making it difficult for two vehicles to pass safely.”
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.
According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
