Mahabad; Cultural Activist Matin Faramarzi Arrested by Security Forces and Transferred to an Unknown Location

Matin Faramarzi, a cultural activist from Mahabad, was arrested by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant as part of the continuing wave of arrests targeting Kurdish citizens and activists.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, security forces arrested Matin Faramarzi in Sheikh Shaltout Park in the city of Mahabad. According to the information received, the officers arrested the cultural activist in a public place without presenting a judicial warrant and subsequently transferred him to an undisclosed location.

According to the information received, the security forces used physical violence during the arrest, assaulting Matin Faramarzi before forcing him into their vehicle and leaving the scene. The incident took place in full view of citizens who were present in the park.

Two days after his arrest, no precise information has been released regarding his place of detention, physical condition, the reasons for his arrest, or the charges brought against the cultural activist. His family also remains unaware of his whereabouts.

In recent months, alongside the intensification of security pressure across Kurdistan, a significant number of Kurdish cultural activists, civil activists, and citizens have been subjected to arbitrary arrests, transfers to undisclosed locations, and the denial of access to legal counsel and communication with their families.
This pattern has consistently been criticised by human rights organisations as a violation of the fundamental rights of citizens and the principles of fair trial.
