Amjad Geryakhiz, a labor activist and member of the “No to Execution” campaign, has been released from Sanandaj Central Prison after serving 45 days.

According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, August 18, 2025, Amjad Geryakhiz, labor activist and member of the “No to Execution” campaign, was freed after spending 45 days in Sanandaj Prison. Earlier, on June 7, 2025, Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court had sentenced him to six months in prison and two years of suspended imprisonment.
On July 7, 2025, Geryakhiz, a labor activist from Sanandaj and member of the “No to Execution” campaign, was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve his six-month prison sentence.
He had originally been arrested on January 8, 2025, while participating in a protest strike against the death sentences of Vriesha Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi in Sanandaj. During his detention, he was subjected to severe torture and held for 35 days in a security detention center without access to medication, a lawyer, or contact with his family. His main charge was “inciting and encouraging shopkeepers to strike” and participating in organizing the protests.
Amjad Geryakhiz is an active member of the Sanandaj Construction Workers’ Union and has a history of arrest, torture, and threats due to his labor, civil, and protest activities. He had previously been detained during the nationwide protests following the killing of Jina Amini, at International Workers’ Day ceremonies, and in reaction to the execution of Ramin Hossein-Panahi.
Reports also indicate that his wife, Arezoo Sabouri, was threatened by security forces at the time of his arrest.
