Mashhad; Death of Arian Karimian, a 21-year-old Kurdish Student, by Live Gunfire

Arian Karimian, a 21-year-old Kurdish Kormanj citizen from Mashhad and a sixth-semester mechanical engineering student, is the identity of another person killed in the nationwide protests in this city.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Arian Karimian, a 21-year-old Kurdish Kormanj student, lost his life during nationwide protests on Haft-e Tir Street in Mashhad after being directly shot with live ammunition by suppressive forces of the Islamic Republic. According to obtained information, the shooting was carried out directly, and this young student was severely injured at the scene and died.

According to Kolbarnews, the body of Arian Karimian was buried on January 13, 2026, under strict security measures and with a heavy presence of security forces at Behesht Zahra Cemetery in Mashhad. Due to security pressure, mourning ceremonies for this deceased individual were forcibly held at the family home, and access routes leading to the house were also controlled and monitored by security forces. Security institutions also repeatedly contacted the family, requesting that he be introduced as a “state martyr,” a demand that was firmly rejected by the family.

Arian Karimian was born in 2004 and was a native of the city of Mashhad.
