Mahabad; Continued Detention and Uncertainty of Soran Sohrabi with Espionage Charges

A citizen from Mahabad named Soran Sohrabi (Khodkam), nearly two weeks after his arrest, remains in an uncertain condition in a security detention center in Urmia, and reports indicate that pressure is being exerted on him.

According to Kolbarnews, Soran Sohrabi, approximately 30 years old and from Mahabad, was arrested about two weeks ago by forces of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and transferred to their detention center in Urmia for interrogation.

Based on received information, government institutions have attributed the charge of “spying for Israel” to this citizen. This is while his family’s follow-ups to obtain information about his condition and place of detention have so far gone unanswered, increasing concerns about his health and safety.

Soran Sohrabi is the brother of Arslan Khodkam, a former Kurdish political prisoner. Arslan Khodkam had previously been sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of cooperating with the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran; this sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment, and he was released in July 2024 after seven years in prison on bail from Urmia Central Prison.

As of the time of this report, no precise information is available regarding the details of the charges or the conditions of Soran Sohrabi’s detention, and he remains deprived of access to a lawyer and family visits.
