Islamabad-e Gharb; Death of Amir Jalilian, a 62-year-old Citizen, during Nationwide Protests

Amir Jalilian, a 62-year-old resident of Islamabad-e Gharb in Kermanshah Province, is another of the victims of the nationwide protests in this city, who lost his life after several days in a coma.

According to Kolbarnews, on the evening of Thursday, 8 January 2026, Amir Jalilian was shot from a very close distance, approximately half a meter to one meter in the face, particularly the right eye, with a targeted direct firing of more than 150 pellet (shotgun) rounds.
The injuries were so severe that the pellets penetrated his brain, nerves, carotid artery, and lungs, causing complete destruction of his face and the loss of both eyes.
He immediately fell into a coma with a level of consciousness of 3 and remained hospitalized in Islamabad-e Gharb Hospital for five days, until he died on the Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

According to a source close to the family, despite a four-hour brain surgery performed on the night before his death, the doctors’ efforts were unsuccessful due to severe damage to the carotid artery, loss of blood supply to the brain, repeated strokes, and severe brain swelling. The extent of the injuries was such that, in order to reduce intracranial pressure, doctors opened the skull and temporarily placed the skull bone in the abdominal area.

The source added that the family learned of Amir Jalilian’s hospitalization after calling his mobile phone, after which his phone was permanently turned off. The family still has no information about the exact location of the shooting or the identity of the shooter. The injuries were so severe that the family did not even request to see CT scan images, and according to doctors, his right eye was essentially not visible in the medical imaging.

According to this report, after his death, security institutions pressured the family to attribute the shooting to Kurdish parties, claiming that security forces were only authorized to fire from a distance of 70 meters. The family rejected these pressures and also refused to receive the forensic medical report, as they were told that for weapon identification the body would have to be transferred to Tehran, a request the family declined out of concern that the body might be taken away.
