According to the latest statistics released by the Mazandaran Forensic Medicine Organization, 665 workers in the province have been killed or injured in workplace accidents during the first eight months of this year. This alarming statistic highlights a concerning rise in workplace accidents in the region.
As reported by Kolbarnews, Ali Abbasi, the Director-General of Mazandaran’s Forensic Medicine, stated in interviews with official media that 73 male and one female worker lost their lives due to workplace accidents during this period. The majority of victims were between the ages of 31 and 40, with seven workers under 20 years old among the deceased.
The most common cause of death was falls from heights, accounting for 37 cases. Other causes included electrocution (22 cases), being struck by hard objects (12 cases), and various other incidents.
In addition to the rise in fatalities, the number of workplace injury victims in Mazandaran has also increased by 1% compared to last year. During this period, 591 workers (564 men and 27 women) were reported to have sustained injuries and sought treatment through forensic medicine services.
In 2023, workplace incidents claimed the lives of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women), representing an 11.3% increase compared to the same period the previous year, when the death toll stood at 1,900.
Iran ranks 102nd globally in workplace safety standards, reflecting its poor performance in ensuring occupational safety. It remains one of the most dangerous countries for workers, where lack of safety measures in workplaces leads to numerous accidents and fatalities annually.
