Urmia; Secret Execution of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, One of the Detainees of the Jina Revolutionary Movement

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Urmia, who had been arrested during the Jina Revolutionary Movement and sentenced to death, was secretly executed in Urmia Central Prison.

According to Kolbarnews, at dawn on Sunday, May 3, 2026, the death sentence of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, a 27-year-old political prisoner, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison, and several hours later the Judiciary Media Center also confirmed the implementation of this sentence.
This prisoner had been transferred to solitary confinement before the execution of the sentence.

Based on the information received, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, following his protest against the insulting behavior of one of the soldiers in the meeting hall for families of political prisoners and an altercation with him, had been transferred as punishment to solitary confinement in handcuffs and shackles by order of the head of Urmia Prison.

This political prisoner had previously been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, headed by Judge Najafzadeh, on charges including “armed rebellion (baghi)” and “corruption on earth” in connection with the case related to the killing of one of the government forces during the protests of October 2022 in Nushin Shahr of Urmia.
He had denied all charges and stated that his confessions had been extracted under torture in security detention centers.

His death sentence had previously been confirmed by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court, and afterward Branch 39 of the Supreme Court also rejected his request for retrial. However, reports indicate that this sentence was carried out without the full completion of the legal appeal procedures.

At the same time, the Judiciary Media Center has claimed that Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, along with several other defendants during the protests, had participated in the encirclement and beating leading to the killing of one of the government forces.
