According to the lawyers of Niloufar Hamedi, the imprisoned journalist, she has been granted a pardon and her case has been officially closed after months of detention and legal proceedings.

As reported by Kolbernews, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Parto Borhanpour and Hojjat Kermani, Niloufar Hamedi’s lawyers, stated that she was pardoned for charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime”, leading to the closure of her case.
Niloufar Hamedi, a journalist for Shargh Newspaper, was arrested alongside Elahe Mohammadi in Saqqez after Jina Amini’s death in police custody. She was detained for publishing a photo of Amini in a coma at the start of the 2022 nationwide protests. Initially held at Qarchak Prison, she was later transferred to Evin Prison.
In late October 2023, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, sentenced her to:
7 years in prison for “collaboration with a hostile government (the U.S.)”
5 years in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security”
1 year in prison for “propaganda against the regime.”
In late August 2024, the Tehran Court of Appeals acquitted her of the “collaboration with a hostile government” charge but upheld the 5-year and 1-year sentences from the lower court.
Finally, on January 14, 2024, Hamedi was released from Evin Prison on bail.
