Nationwide protests; funeral ceremonies of three people killed in popular protests held under heavy security lockdown

The funeral ceremonies of Amirhesam Khodayari-Fard, Dariush Ansari Bakhtiarvand, and Khodadad Shirvani Monfared, three individuals killed during popular protests were held on Friday, January 2, 2026, in the cities of Kuhdasht, Fooladshahr, and Marvdasht, under a heavy security atmosphere marked by restrictions, pressure on families, and a strong presence of government forces.

According to Kolbarnews, amid the continuation of nationwide protests in Iran, the funeral ceremonies of three citizens killed during these protests were accompanied by strict security measures, control over public attendance, and reports of confrontations between security forces and participants.

In the city of Kuhdasht, Lorestan Province, the funeral ceremony of Amirhesam Khodayari-Fard was held in the presence of security forces, and according to reports, security agents attacked citizens attending the ceremony. Eyewitnesses stated that attempts by security forces to fully control the ceremony were met with resistance from the people and the family of the deceased, creating a tense atmosphere.

In Fooladshahr, Isfahan Province, the funeral ceremony of Dariush Ansari Bakhtiarvand was held on Friday morning, January 2, 2026, in a heavily securitized environment and with limited attendance by family members and close relatives.
According to Kolbarnews, the family of the deceased was pressured by security forces to issue a statement asking citizens to refrain from widespread attendance for security reasons.

Dariush Ansari Bakhtiarvand, 28 years old and from Fooladshahr, was killed on Wednesday night, December 31, 2025, by direct gunfire from government forces using a Kalashnikov rifle and died before being transferred to medical centers.
Local sources reported a noticeable increase in the presence of security forces throughout Fooladshahr during the ceremony and described the city’s atmosphere as highly tense.

In Marvdasht, Fars Province, the funeral ceremony of Khodadad Shirvani Monfared, another victim of the January protests, was also held on Friday. Khodadad Shirvani Monfared, 33 years old, a father of two and a Lor citizen from Marvdasht, was killed on Thursday night, January 1, 2026, by direct gunfire from government forces. According to informed sources, he was targeted at close range with pellet ammunition and died after being transferred to a medical center.

At the same time as these ceremonies, calls had been circulated on social media urging widespread public participation and expressions of support for the families of those killed.

The popular protests, which began on Sunday, December 28, 2025, with strikes by shopkeepers in Tehran, are still ongoing and, according to reports, have spread to at least 32 cities across various provinces of the country.
