Two young workers from Bukan and Salmas lost their lives in separate workplace accidents after falling from scaffolding while working on construction projects.

According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, 1 August 2026, Mehran Rasouli, son of Maqsoud and Nahayat and a resident of Bukan, died after spending 40 days in a hospital in Mahabad due to the severity of injuries he sustained in a fall from scaffolding.
The accident occurred approximately 40 days earlier while he was working on a building project in Sardasht, and he had remained under medical treatment since the incident.
On the same day, Sardar Ranjbar, a young worker from the village of Kalran (Kalvaran) in Salmas County, suffered severe injuries after falling from scaffolding while working on a construction complex in Urmia. He died as a result of the severity of his injuries after striking the ground.
The deaths of these two workers come amid the continuing high rate of workplace accidents, particularly in the construction sector, which remains one of the leading causes of worker fatalities in Iran. According to the annual report of the Legal Medicine Organization of Iran on occupational accidents in 2024, published in 2025, at least 1,986 workers across the country lost their lives in workplace accidents between the beginning of March 2024 and the end of March 2025.
According to these statistics, falls from height accounted for approximately 48 percent of all workplace fatalities, making them the leading cause of worker deaths, with the construction sector recording the highest number of such incidents.
Occupational safety experts identify the lack of personal protective equipment, the use of non-standard scaffolding, insufficient specialized safety training, and weak enforcement of workplace safety regulations at construction sites as the principal factors behind the continued occurrence of such fatal accidents.
