Iran: Death and Injury of Over 29,000 Workers in 1402

The head of the Crime Scene Investigation Group of the Legal Medicine Organization announced the death and injury of 29,492 workers in the year 1402 due to lack of safety in workplaces. According to him, in the past year, 2,115 workers lost their lives, and 27,377 workers were injured.

According to Kolbarnews, the head of the Crime Scene Investigation Group of the country’s Legal Medicine Organization presented statistics regarding the death and injury of workers in the year 1402 (Iranian year calendar).

Ali Ziaei stated: In total, in 1402, 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in accidents resulting from work, which is an 11.3% increase compared to the same period last year, when the casualties were 1,900. He added about the statistics of injured persons in these accidents: In the past year, the number of injured persons in workplace accidents who referred to legal medical centers increased by 5% compared to 1401, during which 27,377 injured persons in workplace accidents referred to legal medical centers, of whom 1,427 were women and 25,950 were men. Ziaei stated about the highest causes of fatalities resulting from workplace accidents in the country that 983 of the victims of workplace accidents lost their lives due to falling from a height and 474 persons lost their lives due to being hit by a heavy object. Electrocution, burns, and lack of oxygen are also among the leading causes of death in workplace accidents, with 289, 131, and 55 persons respectively losing their lives in these accidents. The head of the Crime Scene Investigation Group of the Legal Medicine Organization of the country added: Tehran province with 414 victims, Isfahan with 172 victims, Razavi Khorasan with 147 victims, and Mazandaran with 138 victims had the highest mortality rates. Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces with three victims, Ilam with nine victims, and Zanjan with ten victims had the lowest mortality rates from workplace accidents. He also mentioned about the injured persons in workplace accidents: Tehran province with 3,038 persons including 239 women and 2,799 men, Isfahan with 2,896 persons including 171 women and 2,725 men, and Razavi Khorasan with 2,343 persons including 119 women and 2,224 men had the highest number of injured persons. The lowest number of injured persons in workplace accidents was in Sistan and Baluchestan provinces with 169 persons including seven women and 162 men, South Khorasan with 228 persons including four women and 224 men, and Hormozgan with 268 persons including five women and 263 men.

Iran ranks 102nd among countries in the world in terms of compliance with occupational safety issues, which is a very low rank.
