Abolfazl Eskandarian and Saman Eskandarian, two Kurdish Kormanj residents of Bojnord who were arrested during the January 2026 protests, have been sentenced in two separate cases by the city’s Revolutionary and Criminal Courts to two years and one day of discretionary imprisonment, 74 lashes, and the payment of a 22 million toman fine.

According to Kolbarnews, in early July 2026, the verdicts against Abolfazl Eskandarian, 23, and Saman Eskandarian, 19, who are cousins and Kurdish Kormanj residents of Bojnord, were communicated to them orally.
According to information received, in one of their cases, Branch One of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Izanlou, sentenced each of them to two years and one day of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “assembly and collusion against national security.”
In a separate case, one of the Bojnord Criminal Court branches sentenced each of them to 74 lashes and a 22 million toman fine on charges of “disrupting public order and peace” and “resisting government officers while performing their duties.”
On Sunday, 4 January 2026, Abolfazl Eskandarian and Saman Eskandarian were arrested after security forces raided their family home without presenting a judicial warrant and transferred them to an undisclosed location. After four days in an undisclosed detention facility, during which they were reportedly subjected to physical torture while blindfolded and with their hands bound, they were transferred to Bojnord Prison.
After approximately one month in detention, they were temporarily released on bail from Bojnord Prison on Tuesday, 4 February 2026.
According to information received, throughout their detention, Abolfazl Eskandarian and Saman Eskandarian were denied access to legal counsel and family visits, a situation that constitutes a violation of the rights of the accused and their fundamental fair trial guarantees.
