Alireza Seydi, a 26-year-old Kurdish Kormanj from Ashkhaneh, has been sentenced by Branch One of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court to three years of discretionary imprisonment in connection with his arrest during the January 2026 protests.
According to Kolbarnews, on 20 July 2026, informed sources reported that Branch One of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court, following a hearing held on 13 July 2026, convicted Alireza Seydi of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against the country’s internal and external security” and sentenced him to three years of discretionary imprisonment.
According to information received, in addition to the prison sentence, Alireza Seydi was also sentenced to flogging. However, the number of lashes and the specific charge related to this part of the sentence have not yet been officially disclosed.
Alireza Seydi was arrested on 9 January 2026 by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant and transferred to an undisclosed location. After 10 days in detention, he was temporarily released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
According to the report, throughout his detention Alireza Seydi was denied access to legal counsel and family visits. Furthermore, because he was unable to afford legal representation, he was tried without the assistance of a lawyer during the judicial proceedings.
