A well-digger lost his life in Zabol following the collapse of a well on agricultural land, highlighting the lack of workplace safety.
According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, a 30-year-old well-digger named Hashem Narouei, a resident of Kouhak township in Zahak County, died while digging a well on agricultural land in Kahak township, Zabol.
The tragic accident occurred due to the collapse of the well caused by slippery well casings and the failure to adhere to safety protocols. The well-digger was trapped under the debris and unfortunately lost his life.
In 2023, a total of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) died in workplace-related incidents, marking an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year’s toll of 1,900 fatalities.
Globally, Iran ranks 102nd in workplace safety, reflecting a very poor standing. It is considered one of the least safe countries in the world for workers, with numerous accidents occurring annually due to unsafe working conditions.
