Amid ongoing security pressures on teachers’ union activists in Kurdistan, four members of the Sanandaj Teachers’ Union Association were summoned to the FARAJA Intelligence Office in recent days and subjected to interrogation.

According to Kolbarnews and based on received reports, amid ongoing security pressures on teachers’ union activists in Kurdistan, four members of the Sanandaj Teachers’ Union Association; Loqman Afzali, Salah Haji-Mirzaei, Majid Karimi, and Nasrin Karimi, were summoned to the FARAJA Intelligence Office in recent days and interrogated.
According to sources close to these activists, their summoning and interrogation took place after the publication of a call by the People’s Committee for Supporting Teachers to hold a protest hiking event in Sanandaj. It is reported that these four activists faced threats and security pressures during the interrogation.
The mentioned protest hiking event was held on Friday, August 29, in the highlands around Sanandaj and was attended by a large number of citizens, civil activists, labor activists, teachers, and mountaineering groups. Participants in this gathering expressed their support for teachers and voiced their opposition to the issuance of heavy and unjust sentences against union activists.
These teachers’ union activists had previously also faced disciplinary actions and severe rulings from the Ministry of Education. According to civil activists, the recent summonses are considered part of a continuous policy of pressure on union and cultural organizations in Kurdistan.
