Piranshahr; Prison Sentence or Fine for 29 Citizens Confirmed in “Kurdish Dance, Khaki Clothing and Jamana” Case

29 of the 58 citizens from Piranshahr who had faced charges of “propaganda against the regime through dancing and symbolism involving khaki clothing and jamana” following their attendance at a wedding ceremony and the publication of images from it on social media have had the previously issued verdict confirmed by the Urmia Revolutionary Court of Appeals.

According to Kolbernews, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Urmia Revolutionary Court of Appeals upheld the verdict for 29 of these citizens without any changes. According to the ruling, each of these individuals has been sentenced to three months in prison or payment of a 20 million toman fine.
This case was initially opened for 58 citizens on the orders of Mojtaba Mahmoudi, the prosecutor of Piranshahr, and these individuals faced charges of “propaganda against the regime through dancing and symbolism” in one of the preliminary investigation branches of the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court.

According to the information received, during the initial proceedings, 29 of these individuals were acquitted of the charges against them and were required to provide a commitment. The other 29 citizens were sentenced to pay a 20 million toman fine, with a three-month prison sentence stipulated in the event of non-payment.

The initial verdict in this case was issued in September 2025 by one of the branches of the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court, and the Urmia Revolutionary Court of Appeals has now upheld the same ruling without changes. These citizens are pursuing the possibility of appealing the ruling.
