On Sunday, April 6, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at Barite Mine No. 4 near the village of Abdollahabad, resulting in the death of a worker and injury of another.
According to Kolbarnews, Hassan Fallah, a 50-year-old worker from Abdollahabad village, lost his life after a section of the mine collapsed. Another worker, a loader operator, was also trapped under the debris but was rescued by fellow miners and local residents and survived with injuries.
The mine is located approximately 19 kilometers northeast of Mahabad and 2 kilometers southeast of Abdollahabad village.
This incident underscores the ongoing lack of workplace safety in Iran’s mining sector. Iran currently ranks 102nd globally in terms of occupational safety standards a concerningly low position that reflects systemic issues in regulation and enforcement.
