During the same period, 573 injured workers referred to the Legal Medicine Organization. Ali Abbasi stated that in this timeframe, 78 people died due to workplace accidents, of whom 76 were men and two were women. He added that this figure represents a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Abbasi, referring to the marital status of the deceased, noted that out of the total number of fatalities, 55 were married and the rest were single. According to Legal Medicine statistics, falls from height rank first among the causes of death from workplace accidents, with 48 fatalities. This is followed by being struck by hard objects and electrocution, each accounting for 11 deaths, while other causes resulted in eight fatalities.
The Director General of the Mazandaran Legal Medicine Organization also stated that the highest number of workplace accident deaths was recorded in August with 16 cases, while the lowest number occurred in March–April with four cases.
He further addressed the geographical distribution of these incidents, stating that the counties of Sari with 15 deaths, Amol with nine, and Babol with eight recorded the highest numbers. In contrast, the counties of Behshahr, Babolsar, Juybar, and Mahmoudabad each recorded only one death, representing the lowest figures.
Abbasi also broke down the fatalities by age group, stating that the highest number of deaths occurred among workers aged 31 to 40, with 18 fatalities, while the lowest number was among those over 61 years of age, with five deaths.
According to Abbasi, during the same eight-month period this year, 573 individuals, 530 men and 43 women referred to the province’s Legal Medicine centers due to injuries from workplace accidents. This figure shows a 3 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
According to annual reports, nationwide in the year 2024, at least 2,042 workers lost their lives in workplace accidents, and 16,113 cases of work-related physical injuries were recorded. Experts emphasize that the lack of job security, inadequate insurance coverage, shortages of labor inspectors, and weak safety infrastructure are among the main factors contributing to the continued occurrence of workplace accidents in Iran.
