Workers at the Kahnuj Titanium Mine have launched a protest against the widespread dismissal of local employees, demanding the reinstatement of the laid-off workers.

According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, dozens of local workers from the Kahnuj Titanium Mine in Kerman Province gathered to protest the firing of 70 local employees over the past few months. Protesters stated that promises made by officials to reinstate the dismissed workers have remained unfulfilled, and that the mine management has instead hired non-local individuals with political connections.
This crisis, which began months ago, escalated on March 26, 2025, when 10 more local workers were dismissed, prompting a wave of worker strikes. Today’s protests emphasized the need for fair hiring practices and the immediate reinstatement of the dismissed workers.
While Mansour Shakarallahi, the representative of Rudbar-e-Jonoub, has claimed that the new Kahnuj titanium plant would boost local employment, protesting workers have dismissed these statements as mere propaganda, stressing that their core issues remain unresolved.
In recent years, the regime’s discriminatory employment policies favoring non-local workers over locals have been seen as a tactic to weaken worker solidarity. By fostering division, the authorities aim to prevent the formation of united protest movements, allowing them to suppress labor demands and intensify the exploitation of workers.
