Karaj; Death of Reza Kavousi, 16-Year-Old Teenager From Quchan, by Direct Live Gunfire

Reza Kavousi, a 16-year-old Kurmanj Kurdish teenager from Quchan in Razavi Khorasan Province and a resident of Karaj, is among those killed during the nationwide protests on January 8, 2026, in the Shahin Vila area of Karaj, where he was shot directly in the chest with live ammunition.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Reza Kavousi, a 16-year-old Kurdish teenager, was targeted by gunfire from repression forces during nationwide protests in the Shahin Vila area of Karaj and lost his life after being struck in the chest by live ammunition.

According to received information, after the teenager was killed, security forces pressured the family during the process of handing over his body and asked them to identify him as a “Basij member.” The family refused this request, and afterward, 7.5 billion rials (750 million tomans) were taken from them in exchange for handing over the body.

His body was eventually transferred to his hometown and buried in the city of Quchan. The process of handing over and burying this victim was also accompanied by pressure and intervention by security forces, and the family was forced to accept imposed conditions.

Reza Kavousi had gone to Karaj from Quchan for work and was employed as a mechanic’s apprentice.
