Bukan: Hunger Strike by Horam Mehrnavayi in Protest of Denied Parole Request

Horam Mehrnavayi, a political prisoner from Bukan, has gone on a hunger strike to protest the rejection of his parole request.

According to Kolbarnews, starting on Monday, May 12, 2025, Horam Mehrnavayi, a political prisoner held in Bukan Central Prison, began a hunger strike after his request for conditional release was denied.

Horam Mehrnavayi, a 22-year-old from Bukan, was previously arrested on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, by Intelligence Ministry agents on charges of “participating in organizing the Nowruz celebration in Bukan.”

He was first arrested during the Jinā uprising in December 2022 in Bukan and later released on bail. In March 2023, he was sentenced to 54 months of discretionary imprisonment for allegedly collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party. He was transferred to prison in April 2023 to serve his sentence. After some time, he was released with an electronic ankle monitor but was later returned to prison.
