Five residents of Bukan, Rezgar Babamiri, Pezhman Soltani, Soran Ghasemi, Kaveh Salehi, and Tayfour Salimi Babamiri have been sentenced to heavy punishments including death sentences and lengthy prison terms.

According to Kolbarnews, these five individuals were sentenced by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia on political charges. They are among those arrested after the Jina revolutionary uprising, and have received a total of five death sentences and 75 years of imprisonment.
The verdicts were officially communicated to their lawyers on Monday, July 7, 2025. The charges against them include “baghi” (armed rebellion), “moharebeh” (waging war against God), and membership in terrorist groups. The court also issued 15 years in prison for each, for alleged membership in armed opposition groups.
Details of the Sentences:
Pezhman Soltani (30 years old): Three death sentences and 15 years in prison
Soran Ghasemi (28 years old): Three death sentences, 15 years in prison, and an additional 10 years and 1 day of imprisonment for involvement in murder
Rezgar Babamiri (42 years old): Two death sentences, 15 years in prison, and an additional 15 years for involvement in murder
Kaveh Salehi (40 years old): Three death sentences and 15 years in prison; he was acquitted of the murder charge
Tayfour Salimi Babamiri (47 years old): One death sentence and 15 years in prison; currently released on bail of 5 billion tomans (~$100,000 USD equivalent)
In addition, Pezhman Soltani had previously been sentenced to death in a separate case by the Juvenile Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan Province.
Reports indicate that these individuals were arrested several months after the Jina uprising in cities including Bukan and Baneh, and were held in security detention centers without contact with their families or access to legal counsel. According to published information, they were subjected to severe torture during interrogation and forced into making coerced confessions against themselves.
In connection with this same case, six other individuals have also been sentenced to prison, and trial sessions are ongoing for five more defendants from Bukan. These individuals include:
Hemin Kermanj, Ahmad Mamzadeh (65 years old), Abubakr Mamzadeh (53 years old), Jalil Moloudi, Javanmard Mam Khosravi (50 years old).
Reports state that the arrests of these individuals took place between Feb–Apr 2023, mostly without any judicial warrant.
The issuance of these harsh sentences is part of an ongoing escalation in security and judicial crackdowns on political and civil activists.
