On the Zahedan–Khash road, military forces opened fire on Sukhtbari vehicles, which resulted in the ignition and burning of one of the vehicles.
According to Kolbarnews, in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, around 2 a.m., military forces opened fire on three Sukhtbari vehicles along the Zahedan–Khash route, in the Chanali area, leading to the complete burning of one of the vehicles.
According to one of the Sukhtbars who survived the incident,
“Around Chanali, two cars a white Peugeot Pars and a silver Peugeot 405 opened fire on our three moving vehicles without any prior warning. Near the Mortak area, my car caught fire. They shot my car many times; there was also a gasoline container in it that ignited. I barely managed to throw myself out of the car. My car completely burned I had bought it on credit, and I still had installments left to pay.”
Local sources say that such intense and unannounced shootings have significantly increased in recent days along the southern routes of the province, causing fear, financial losses, and casualties among Baloch citizens.
Sukhtbari is considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan have been forced to turn to due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle overturns, and direct gunfire from military and security forces are among the dangers that threaten the lives of these Sukhtbars. According to reports from Baloch activists, in the year 2024, at least 375 Baloch Sukhtbars have been injured or lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires. Of this number, 240 Sukhtbars were killed and 135 were injured, representing a 55% increase in the number of killed and injured Sukhtbars compared to the year 2023.
