Hamid Chepati, a civil activist from Urmia, has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment by the Court of Appeals.

According to Kolbarnews, Hamid Chapati, a civil activist from Urmia, was sentenced to six months of imprisonment by Branch 23 of the West Azerbaijan Provincial Court of Appeals. The ruling was officially delivered to him on August 19, 2025.
Previously, Branch 2 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Shahini, had sentenced the activist to three months of imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” However, following an objection by the Deputy Prosecutor of Urmia, the case was referred to the Court of Appeals, where the initial sentence was increased to six months.
The initial trial session was held on February 15, 2025, and the verdict was delivered to Mr. Chapati’s lawyer four days later. The civil activist had been arrested earlier on October 17, 2024, after being summoned by the Security Police due to posting critical content on social media. He was released temporarily upon posting bail until the completion of judicial proceedings.
