After months of pursuing Reza Aghasi’s family, the Legal Medical Organization opposed his release due to multiple illnesses, without holding a session or examining this political prisoner.
According to Kolbarnews, the Legal Medical Organization has opposed the release of labor activist Reza Aghdasi, a war-wounded poet and political prisoner, by issuing a “non-acceptance of punishment” order, despite his absolute deafness due to injuries from explosion waves. This labor activist has also suffered panic attacks in recent years following his dismissal from his job at Iran Khodro Company and the return of his two sick children. Deafness, along with panic attacks, has made Reza Aghdasi’s situation in Evin Prison dangerous. The treating physician emphasized that he should be kept away from conditions that exacerbate anxiety.
Meanwhile, Reza Aghdasi has two young children, one of whom has autism and the other suffers from a suspected acute intestinal disease resembling cancer. Providing medical treatment for these two children is extremely difficult, especially when their father is in prison and their mother is deprived of employment.
On Monday, November 27, 2023, based on a ruling issued by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court under the presidency of Judge Iman Afshari, Reza Aghdasi, the spouse of a labor activist, was sentenced to eight months of enhanced imprisonment for the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and three years and seven months of imprisonment for the charge of “participation in gatherings and conspiracy with the intention of committing crimes against national security,” with the previous detention days taken into account.
On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the trial session for the charges against labor activist Reza Aghdasi was held. During this session, held at the Tehran Revolutionary Court, Reza Aghdasi defended himself against charges of “participation in gatherings with the intent of acting against national security, anti-regime propaganda activities, participation in illegal gatherings, and membership in opposition groups and factions.”
Mr. Aghdasi participated in this court session without access to a lawyer and was transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison after the conclusion of this session.
On October 24, 2023, Reza Aghdasi, a laid-off worker from Iran Khodro, was detained and transferred to quarantine in Evin Prison after appearing at Branch 3 of Evin Courthouse. Mr. Aghasi had been summoned to this branch in mid-October. His personal residence was previously searched by security forces during last year’s nationwide protests, and officers confiscated some of his and his family’s personal belongings.
