Ahmad Tamouei, a former political prisoner from Salmas County, was arrested by security forces in Tehran and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to Kolbarnews, in the early hours of Monday, February 23, 2026, Ahmad Tamouei was arrested in Tehran without the presentation of a judicial warrant and with the use of violence by security forces and was taken from his residence. Efforts by his family and relatives to obtain information about his situation have so far been unsuccessful, and no information is available about his place of detention or physical condition.
After his release from prison, Ahmad Tamouei had been working as a Snapp driver in Tehran to earn a living. As of the time of this report, no official explanation has been provided regarding the reasons for his arrest or any possible charges against him.
This former political prisoner had previously been released from Urmia Central Prison on Thursday, December 16, 2021, while serving the fifteenth year of his sentence. He had been arrested on October 24, 2007, in Mahabad by security forces and transferred to the IRGC Intelligence detention center in Urmia.
After several months of detention in solitary confinement at the IRGC Intelligence detention center in Urmia and the Intelligence Office detention center in Mahabad, Ahmad Tamouei was transferred to Mahabad Prison. In February 2008, Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court sentenced him to fifteen years in prison and exile to Urmia Prison on charges of “enmity against God.” This sentence was upheld on appeal in May 2008, and he was subsequently transferred to Urmia Central Prison to serve his sentence.
On November 17, 2016, Ahmad Tamouei was acquitted of the charge of “propaganda against the state” by Branch Three of the Urmia Revolutionary Court. The verdict explicitly stated that due to insufficient evidence, mere suspicion by the Intelligence Office could not serve as the basis for conviction.
