South Rudbar: Death of a Baloch Sukhtbar Due to Vehicle Overturn and Fire

A Baloch Sukhtbar lost his life after his vehicle overturned and caught fire in Southern Rudbar.

According to Kolbarnews, citing Balochistan sources, on the evening of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, a road accident in Islamabad, Southern Rudbar County, caused by a technical issue (a tire blowout), led to the overturning and subsequent fire of a Sukhtbari vehicle. The driver, tragically died in the flames.

The identity of the deceased has been reported as Naser Shokri, a 56-year-old resident of Islamabad, Southern Rudbar County, married with three children.

Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. 

According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
