IRGC forces opened fire on a group of Sukhtbars at the Kalgon border in Saravan, resulting in at least 12 casualties among the Sukhtbars.
According to Kolbarnews, citing Balochistan sources, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, IRGC forces fired on Sukhtbars at the Joder-Kalegan border, killing and injuring at least 12 Baloch Sukhtbars.
The identities of four of the deceased Sukhtbars have been reported as “Abdolwasih Rigi,” 18 years old, “Shokrollah Rigi,” 23 years old, “Khasti Rigi,” and “Asghar Sasouli,” 22 years old, from Mashkid in Eastern Balochistan.
One of the injured Sukhtbars has been identified as “Abdollah Rigi,”.
Abdollah and another unidentified Sukhtbar were arrested by IRGC forces and taken to Saravan, while two other injured Sukhtbars were transferred to a clinic in Mashkid.
The identities of the injured Sukhtbar transferred to Mashkid and the fate and status of the four other Sukhtbars present at the scene during the shooting remain unknown at the time of this report.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, Baloch Sukhtbars were waiting at the Joder and Kalegan border area in Saravan for other carriers to bring fuel from across the border when IRGC forces suddenly opened fire without prior warning, resulting in at least eight deaths and injuries, with four others missing.
Sukhtbari is considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan have resorted to out of lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle overturning, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that threaten the lives of Sukhtbars in this profession. According to reports from Baloch activists in 2023, at least 172 Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, and 42 others were injured in these incidents, including 11 children
