Saqqez: Arrest of Three Citizens by Security Forces

Latif Moradi, Mozaffar Moradi, and Behzad Moradi, three citizens from the city of Saqqez, were arrested by security forces following their protest against the destructive activities of a gold mining company in the village of Mirgeh Nakhshineh, a district of Saqqez.

According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, July 21, 2025, Latif Moradi (village head), Mozaffar Moradi (lawyer), and Behzad Moradi, three citizens from the village of Mirgeh Nakhshineh in Saqqez county, were arrested by officers from the “Miredeh” police station.
According to this report, their arrest was in response to their protest against the destruction of orchards, farmlands, roads, and surrounding mountains in Mirgeh Nakhshineh by the gold mining company.

Previously, a group of citizens and civil activists from Kurdistan had signed a letter demanding the immediate cessation of gold mining activities in Saqqez due to environmental risks.
Additionally, a grassroots campaign has been underway since the beginning of this year calling for the shutdown of the Saqqez gold mine and factory.
