Sanandaj: Afshin Hosseinpanahi Released on Bail

Afshin Hosseinpanahi, the brother of executed political prisoner Ramin Hosseinpanahi, has been released from Sanandaj Central Prison after 50 days in detention, following the posting of a heavy bail.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Afshin Hosseinpanahi was temporarily released on bail until the conclusion of judicial proceedings. The Iranian judiciary had initially set his bail at 50 billion rials (5 billion tomans), and although his family managed to secure the amount, authorities initially refused to release him. During his detention, he was denied access to a lawyer and family contact.

Afshin Hosseinpanahi was arrested by security forces at his workplace on January 8, 2025. By late February, after completing his interrogation, he was transferred from a security detention center in Sanandaj to the city’s central prison.

As of the time of this report, no official information is available regarding the charges against him or the reasons for his arrest.

It is important to note that on September 8, 2018, Ramin Hosseinpanahi was executed along with two other political prisoners, Zaniar Moradi and Loghman Moradi. The execution was carried out without prior notice to their lawyers, and their bodies were not returned to their families. Reports indicated that they were buried in an undisclosed location, and their families were threatened to prevent protests or media coverage. These executions sparked significant reactions from human rights organizations and legal advocates.

Afshin Hosseinpanahi had previously faced judicial persecution and sentencing due to his activism.
