Prison and Death Sentences Issued for Detainees of the Jina Revolutionary Uprising

Pezhman Soltani, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, and Ali Ghasemi, detainees from the Jina revolutionary movement in Boukan, have been sentenced to execution and long-term imprisonment.

According to Kolbarnews, Pezhman Soltani was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Juvenile Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan Province on charges of “premeditated murder.” Additionally, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri and Ali (Soran) Ghasemi were sentenced to 15 years and 10 years and one day in prison, respectively, on charges of “complicity in murder.”

In the same case, Kaveh Salehi, another defendant, was acquitted of all charges.

The trial for these four political prisoners took place on December 30, 2024, at Branch 1 of the Juvenile Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan Province, and the final verdicts were delivered to them at Urmia Central Prison on January 15, 2025.

A separate case has been filed against these four detainees, along with Javanmard Mam-Khosravi, in the Urmia Revolutionary Court on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God), “baghi” (armed rebellion), “sending medicine,” and “Starlink smuggling.”

On April 15, 2023, Ali (Soran) Ghasemi (28), Pezhman Soltani (32), and Kaveh Salehi (42) were arrested without a judicial warrant at their homes in an unlawful raid by security forces. They were subsequently transferred to the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center for interrogation.

Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri was arrested on April 17, 2023, in Bukan for assisting the injured during the 2022 nationwide protests. Before his arrest, he worked as a farmer.

Javanmard Mam-Khosravi was similarly detained on April 26, 2023, in Baneh without a judicial order.

All these individuals were held for months in intelligence detention centers in Boukan and Urmia, where they were subjected to torture and forced confessions. During their detention, they were also denied access to legal representation and family visits.
