Mojgan Kavousi, a researcher and activist for mother tongue rights and a political prisoner from Kelardasht, has had her prison sentence converted to open prison. She will serve the remaining of her sentence outside of Tonekabon prison.
According to Kolbarnews, Mojgan Kavousi’s prison sentence has been converted to open prison. She will serve the rest of her sentence outside Tonekabon prison.
In December 2022, Mojgan Kavousi was tried by Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court, with her defense lawyers Osman Mazin and Maziar Tatai present. She was sentenced to eight months for “propaganda activities against the regime,” eighteen months for “insulting the leadership,” and thirty-nine months for “assembly and collusion against national security.”
Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, three years and three months of imprisonment will be enforceable as the most severe punishment.
She began serving her sentence in Tonekabon prison in December 2023.
Previously, Mojgan Kavousi had been arrested and imprisoned for her activism. During the November 2019 protests, she was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment. She was finally released from Kachouei prison in Karaj in January 2022 after serving 20 months.
