Marivan: Citizen Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison

Karo Alidad, a civil and environmental activist from Marivan, has been sentenced to 18 months of prison by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Marivan.

According to Kolbarnews, Karo Alidad, a 21-year-old civil and environmental activist from Marivan, has been sentenced to 18 months of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

He was arrested on Wednesday, January 24, 2025, by security forces for participating in a general strike across Kurdish cities in protest of an execution verdict.
He was eventually released from Sanandaj Central Prison on Saturday, March 1, 2025, after posting 800 million tomans in bail, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Karo Alidad had previously suffered a spinal injury while helping extinguish wildfires in the forests of Marivan.

He was also previously arrested in December 2020 due to his activism.
