Zahra Nabizadeh, a female activist from Mahabad, has been re-arrested after being summoned by phone to the city’s Intelligence Office.
According to Kolbarnews, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Zahra Nabizadeh was arrested following a phone summons to the Intelligence Office in Mahabad.
Previously, she had been arrested by security forces in January 2023 during the nationwide uprising “Woman, Life, Freedom” and was detained along with her five-year-old son and transferred to Urmia prison.
The reasons for her re-arrest remain unknown.
The re-arrest of Ms.Nabizadeh has sparked widespread reactions from human rights and civil activists in Kurdistan and across Iran.
Zahra Nabizadeh was initially arrested on January 24, 2023, during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in Mahabad and was taken to an undisclosed location.
At the time of her first arrest, Ms. Nabizadeh was pregnant, and it is reported that she lost her child due to torture.
She was released after some time but remained under surveillance and scrutiny by security forces.
Her re-arrest highlights the ongoing repression and increasing pressure on female activists in Iran.
